Gothic Time

It’s almost Halloween and I just happen to have some pictures that–I hope–evoke the atmosphere of the gothic and the spooky.

I’m quite pleased with these photos; they’re from the same place as my two previous autumnal posts, Prestwich Clough in Manchester.

Gandhi Statue in Manchester

Statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled in Manchester in November 2019. Here’s what it looks like:

The building behind his stick is Manchester Cathedral.

At the time of its unveiling, there were some talks about Gandhi being a controversial figure nowadays.

I don’t really know, I’m just here to post pictures.

Be the change you wish to see.

Gandhi

I’ve always liked this quote.

Alan Turing Memorial, Manchester

It’s in Sackville Gardens, a small park bordering Canal Street, aka the area in Manchester commonly known as Gay Village.

Alan Turing was a brilliant computer scientist and mathematician, who worked on first computers at the University of Manchester and during WW2 was part of a team at Bletchley Park, working for the Government Code and Cypher School, cracking Germany’s military codes. Unfortunately he was not treated very well and was prosecuted because of his sexuality. He was granted a posthumous pardon in 2013.

Essentially, Alan Turing is the godfather of all modern computers.
